They design, manufactures, and market over 500,000 products for more than 200,000 customers.  They have an established manufacturing presence in approximately 20 countries, operate in over 50 countries and serve their 200,000 customer base across more than 150 countries. Most of their products are built with traditional stamping, plating, molding and assembly processes along with plastic extrusion. Although the vast majority of their products are passive components, today, they are integrating more active electronics into their devices to create smarter products, such as active conversion in cable and connection authentication. The dynamics of their industry are towards smaller components, integrated electronics, higher precision and to high mix / low volume integrated manufacturing models.

 

Position Description

 

Our client has an opportunity for a seasoned Manufacturing Technology professional with strong technical and leadership capabilities in chartering global manufacturing solutions in a leading electrical component manufacturing company.  The ideal candidate shall be an expert to lead the next generation manufacturing technologies including machine vision guided robotic flexible automation, disruptive manufacturing technologies, printing, laser machining, fiber optic automation, as well as integration of advanced manufacturing to design engineering systems, plus the four core manufacturing areas in Stamping, Plating, Assembly, and Molding.

 

This is a rare opportunity to join a high performing organization in a new global role, reporting directly to the Vice President: Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, as part of the corporate Technology team. This role will be a focal point of technical expertise on next generation of advanced manufacturing technologies.  This role will also have opportunities to develop technology strategies, establish new manufacturing solutions and platforms at various manufacturing sites worldwide.

 

The objective of this high profile position is to innovate and deliver Advanced Manufacturing solutions to support our clients’ business strategy by providing the leadership, skills, and managerial support to win in the marketplace.

 

The ideal candidate shall exhibit an exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity and resourcefulness in the application and development of highly advanced technologies, scientific principles, theories and concepts.  He/she must possess multiple areas of manufacturing/engineering expertise and broad knowledge of the manufacturing industry.  This leader is viewed as an expert internally and externally within the field and interacts effectively with customers at all levels.

 

Possessing a strong work ethic, a global mind-set, and a can-do attitude, the successful candidate will have sophisticated interpersonal skills in building relationships and communicating effectively.  The ideal candidate will be substantive in their Technology discipline with high emotional intelligence to understand subtlety and grasp details and nuances.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

 

Creating, strengthening, and managing the cross-business automation technology roadmaps to define, innovate, and implement the technologies the businesses will need to be successful. Working with the businesses to define and to implement the laboratory and advanced manufacturing development projects.

 

Innovate and develop the next generation of manufacturing technologies and standards. Identify what technologies should be sourced internally or externally.

 

Establish an advanced manufacturing technology strategy, assisting and measuring its implementation and the results of the implementation.

 

Continually monitoring manufacturing technologies, market trends and business strategies to seek new opportunities that may be appropriate for our client, but are not currently addressed, and to execute such strategies to capitalize on the opportunity.

 

Significant involvement in manufacturing opportunities allowing for the seamless transition of new products to assembly facilities.

 

Working with intellectual property (IP) managers and legal teams to innovate and to strengthen our clients’ IP strategies and portfolios in manufacturing technology.

 

Shared capital budget responsibility for advanced manufacturing of the global manufacturing department.

 

Candidate Profile

 

Work Experience & Abilities Required:

 

A strong leader with clearly demonstrated experience and a track record of deploying new manufacturing technologies.

 

At least 15 years operational and/or technical experiences within manufacturing; with a detailed knowledge of current manufacturing technologies for precision electromechanical manufacture and / or optical system manufacture.

 

Excellent commercial and business acumen with deep experience in analyzing supplier technologies and capabilities.

 

Experienced in setting manufacturing technology strategy based on business strategy; relevant business experience in our client’s market segments: transportation, energy networks, electronic devices, and communication networks, networked within the target supplier community.

 

Adept at the integration of engineering design systems to manufacturing systems for various volume and mix combinations.

 

Experienced in the development of specific manufacturing systems incorporating flexible automation.

 

Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and the application of such in manufacturing environment and in product life-cycle management.

 

Ability to communicate vision and inspire people at every level to deliver and execute the manufacturing strategy of the Technology organization.

 

Experienced in matrix management with a track record of being able to manage by influence and coordinate cross business unit activities.

 

A track record of defining and executing strategy and fact-finding projects to answer specific business or technology questions and opportunities.

 

A demonstrated track record of successfully and effectively driving step change in manufacturing through technological improvements.

 

Experience in Engineering Integration and Technology Operations.

 

Strong global industrial manufacturing experiences, with international experience preferred.

 

Willingness to travel frequently, and as necessary, to support a global technology organization with significant presence in China and other regions. Anticipated travel is 50% in the first year or so, then 25% – 33%.

Education

 

B.S. of Engineering with 20 or more years of experience; Masters of Science with 15 or more years of experience; PhD with 10 or more years of experience or local equivalent. Professional Engineer status strongly preferred.

 

Language Abilities

 

English with a preference for Mandarin and/or German.
