Position Description

 

Based in Shanghai, the Sr. Director – Spine BU, China will report to the Global President of the BU and dotted line to the Greater China President.  The Business Unit head will have full P&L responsibility and manage the functional areas including Sales, Marketing and Operations.  The Business Unit Head will be responsible for drafting and implementing long-term and short-term business strategies.  Main emphasis will be on the leading and driving the business at a much more aggressive pace of growth, modernizing the organization as well as preparation, developing and achieving budgets for sales, profit and growth.

 

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

 

Leading and providing guidance to the key functional heads.

 

Participating in the development and implementation of the company’s growth strategy for China.

 

Consolidating and optimizing the commercial policies, with the objective of creating a most cost effective business structure to deliver aggressive business targets.

 

Assessing and identifying market opportunities, formulating corresponding strategies and action plans.

 

Building and managing new and existing business relationships and product portfolio while developing the foundation for future growth in the market.

 

Determining and recommending optimal business strategies to grow the current business as well as future products.

 

Making recommendations on capital expenditures, investments and business expansion, as well as coordinating the management of projects and activities, once approved.

 

Retaining, building and developing critical relationships with authorities and key customers.

 

Acting as key representative of the organization to the government bodies, professional organizations and other external contacts.

 

Establishing good working relationships with relevant government bodies in the healthcare arena to maximize future business potentials.

 

Developing effective communication channels and working relationships with other operating companies of the group and the headquarters.

 

Recruiting, training and mentoring (directly and indirectly) a team of staff in various functions such as sales & marketing, operations and support.

 

Creating a compliance, professional, open, teamwork focused culture, where there are substantial amounts of transparence and frequent communication with the team.

 

Candidate Profile

 

Work Experience & Abilities Required:

 

A proven track record, both in management and leadership abilities with a medical device or pharmaceutical company, which has significant operations in China.

 

Business unit / P&L management experience for revenues in excess of US$50 million.

 

Solid operational experience and in-depth market knowledge of China.

 

People orientated as well as an open communicator who is a relationship and team builder.

 

Adaptable to a changing and highly challenging environment, with the capability to influence and change local corporate culture.

 

Excellent analytical and conceptual thinking skills.

 

Proven experience in managing large and complex organization and projects.

 

Highly energetic, ambitious and motivated.

 

Entrepreneurial, creative and innovative.

 

Culturally diverse, flexible and with the potential to grow beyond the role.

 

Unquestionable ethics and integrity – the candidate must possess a high degree integrity and ethics and capable of operating in a highly regulated and compliant medical device industry.

 

Language Skills:

 

Fluent in both spoken and written English & Mandarin Chinese.

 

Education:

 

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, with preferably a postgraduate degree such as MBA.
